Hi, wish you all a rocking 2011!

For the 1st time in my life I slept till about 11 in the morning! I hope I don't sleep the whole year through!!! It was all thanks to the successful launch of INDF Calendar 2011.

Sharing with you, yet another milestone popcorn flicks achieved. I am a shameless fan of only two icons from India - of course Amitabh Bachchan and Vijay Mallaya.

Ever-since Vijay Mallaya launched KF calendar about 8 years back - is it more? - I had this dream of launching my own calendar. I had put 2015 as the year to do it; but as they say good things happen to good people (I hope I am!) rather soon. I got an opportunity to do so in 2011.

INDF calendar brings forth the INDF spirit. Unconventional, bold, fearless and abstract. 2011 edition is called EROTICA.

INDF calendar is designer, unlike KF!
Yes, no two people in the world will ever get the same calendar! I want people to crave for more, think what is in the other 99 calendars (did I hear 69)!!!

I have sent 100 calendars to PF's / INDF' high-profile business-associates globally; of course, with a personal note attached. The next edition will go to 500 (or should I say 300!)

Delhi Times took out a series of articles hailing Delhi as the hot film destination. My take is, yes post 90's much of Mumbai's famed charm has worn out! In fact, I have friends from Mumbai telling me that Delhi is much more happening and rocking. As for Delhi being a hot destination to shoot films. Its all about money honey! There are no two points in it that Delhi has much more money than Mumbai. So yes, stars flock to Delhi and with world becoming a global village and Bollywood reaching out to the world like never before, today you can shoot a film anywhere and not just Delhi. The point is you should have money to make the film. ASAT!

Hi, the shocking news of a gang of children aged between 7 and 14 executing a daring theft at a wedding party in a five-star hotel reiterated the fact that juvenile crime is on rise in India. They made away with 3 lakhs worth of cash and jewelery.

The reported statement by Saif that I’m as committed as I am, married to Kareena or not; set the tongues wagging in the industry. "What's new?" asked a journo friend. Everyone knows that infidelity happens in marriages and this is a trend of yore, so what does Saif want to prove. Guess, nothing except that he is one-woman man!

On marriages, seems another Bollywood marriage has gone kaput, Sonam and Rajiv Rai's marriage. Sonam was once the pin-up girl of Bollywood and probably one of the first heroines to carry off a tiny-winy bikini onscreen.

Finally its time to gear up for Day 3 of the shoot. No SATC today, busy!

Hi, was busy yesterday with a shoot, its an adfilm that will be wrapped up in 4 days.

Ramu is on to his new film, a supposed expose on Bollywood - I wonder, what he will expose - people know Bollywood inside out!

More on Bollywood, reportedly Munni Badnaam Huyee is sung by a veteran singer Razia Begum for HMV (now Saregama) in 1971. The original song was Launda badnaam hua...
The murky side is the allegations by late Razia Begum's daughter that Manoj Tiwari, after finding the original singers, didn't do anything for them; instead he took money and sat on the issue. Logically speaking, I don't find it true, but as they say fact is stranger than fiction.

I have wheat intolerance

Pasta makes you bloat and bread is your diet enemy. The minute you give up wheat, the pounds fall off. Surely this means wheat intolerance.

Many people find foods like pasta hard to digest. This is often due to the water the pasta absorbs, which makes it swell and leads to bloating. This, however, does not mean you have wheat intolerance (a condition less than 0.1 per cent of us suffer from). Going wheat-free inevitably makes you lose weight as you ditch the fat-loaded pizzas and pastries.

Other symptoms of wheat intolerance are headaches and joint pains. If you suffer from these, see your GP and keep a food diary to work out what bring on the symptoms.

Some people seem to eat loads and never gain weight, whereas you pile it on and always feel tired. It must be a case of slow metabolism.

The facts

Vast majority of overweight people do not have a dysfunctional metabolism. If you are very active, you will have a high metabolism and burn lots of calories. If you're not, you will have a slow metabolism.

Beat it

Being active and eating nutritious foods like lean meat and vegetables boosts metabolism.

It's my medication

You can't risk your health by stopping the pills. So what can you do if they make you gain weight?

The facts

Many drugs for common complaints, such as depression, diabetes, migraines and high blood pressure, can lead to unintentional weight gain.

Beat it

First, ask your doctor if there's an alternative that doesn't cause weight gain. In cases where this isn't possible, ask to see a dietician.

It's in my genes

Obesity runs in the family. So, it’s not your fault if you are obese too.

The facts

While it's possible to inherit obesity, it's not a dominant gene. Your chances of being overweight are far more affected by eating habits you adopt when growing up.

Beat it

If there's a family tendency to being fat, it's important to learn about healthy eating when young and get regular bouts of exercise.

Hi, move over Niira Radia, the latest topic is Sonakshi Sinha's picture in a striped bikini. Did she didn't she?

Well, while there are chances that the picture is morphed; I fail to understand why this hullabaloo over the picture. Is it because it is a big magazine brand that is involved, Maxim?

If you surf the net there are very many voyeurs who have morphed almost all celebrities in nude - but none of the celebrities cry hoarse over the pictures; they don't even acknowledge such pictures.

Guess, the best thing for Sonakshi to do is lie low; within a week the controversy will die down - but if she reacts, the controversy will never die!

It shocks me at the dismal, not even poor response to today's multiple releases. Some films are not even playing at many of the screens! Makes me wonder, why do people make films?

Though I want to catch up Mirch, as it is produced by a friend of friend and he asked me to watch it!

A shocking study suggests so!

It says many women become lesbians when they hit their thirties.

The researchers found that girls' sexual orientation becomes more relaxed as they get older, so much so that many go on to become bi-sexual.

Most textbooks assume that women's sexual preferences are fixed in their early twenties - the same as men - and rarely change later in life.

Utah psychologist Lisa Diamond, who tracked 100 women in their 30's, for more than ten years, found the women's sexuality became more fluid with age.

The findings will be presented at the American Psychological Association next month.

Hi, finally, I got the invite to film a guerrilla film in Tirol, Austria.

It is a beautiful picturesque mountainous region about an hour and a half drive from Munich. I will be shooting a trilogy over there and then, probably a mainstream film.

More dope on Raagini MMS; apparently Kangna Ranaut is no longer a part of it. I like Kangna a lot, in fact better than Katrina or Priyanka; but as a director I felt Kangna was a wrong choice - alternative films need fresh faces and Kangna is neither fresh nor does she look innocent. I hope Ekta casts some hot new actress for the part.

Farah Khan said in an interview something to the effect that Shahrukh wouldn't have carried TMK and Akshay is the best choice - ew, that hurts!

As they say, in film industry there are no permanent friends or enemies!

Is frequent sex bad for marriage?

An article that talks about a diary a journalist maintained, suggests so.

Rosie, who tried indulging in sex for a complete month, every day, found herself unhappy for the first time in eight-year relationship, reports the Daily Mail. Being a journalist, she experimented to have sex every day for a month and keep a daily diary of the results.

She heard of people claiming that having sex every day brings a couple closer, induces new levels of intimacy and rejuvenates sex lives. But it rather had an adverse effect as it ultimately destroyed her relationship.

In the course of having sex for 30-days, just three days in, it became obvious it was going to be more challenging than she imagined.

By day four, desire had been usurped by boredom. On the fifth day we managed a desultory fumble and it was only a change of scene on day six that revived us.

We happened to be staying at my parents' house. Decorum dictates that you do not indulge in frenzied sex when your mum and dad are in the next room. But we had sex simply because it felt a bit naughty.

At the end of the week, however, we were flagging again. We'd been to a friend's wedding and were staying in a Travelodge. Frankly, the unalluring surroundings would have quenched even the tiniest spark of desire. Once again we failed.

By day eight the tension was building. Going to bed each night was no longer a relaxing experience, but something to be dreaded because they both knew what was expected of them.

With time, sex became mechanical, passionless and irksome.

And when the 30 days ended-having replaced several required steamy encounters with nights sitting side-by-side in bed, simmering with resentment-their arguments continued.

Sex, once a shared joy, had become about as appealing as squeezing lemon juice into a finger cut. And now we weren't compelled to do it for the experiment, it wasn't even happening spontaneously.

In short, the compulsion had killed intimacy stone dead. Now that there was no physical closeness to patch over the cracks when we had a row, the fractures in our relationship grew into a chasm.

"You've always known I want children. And we've both conceded we had such a good relationship it would be hard to end it because you don't. But as we've been arguing so much lately, now seems the right time to split up," her partner said.

The silly but well-intentioned experiment designed to bring them closer had actually driven the couple apart.

She said that it seems the most important thing is to have enough sex to make you and your partner happy, not an arbitrary amount dictated by scientific experiments

Had a hectic day today, completing a photo-shoot for an international client; yes, popcorn media is an arm of popcorn flicks that will look into the smaller revenue-heads of media & entertainment. It was instrumental in executing the indie n DOGMA flicks calendar 2011 and in less than a month, it executed photo-shoot for an international client.

The media blew more dirt on 'Radia case' and the film fraternity is shocked with the tepid response the films got in 2010; ironically in a year that saw Robot and Dabangg - rewriting records!

Well, that's Bollywood.

My first reaction was because women love dogs?

But then I read the article by columnist Sherry Argov.

It says why girls need to shed the good girl tag. Sugar and spice isn't always nice. A dash of hot 'n' sour is what turns a bland dish into a gastronomic delight. Likewise, in the dating game, just being nice to your man doesn't make him more devoted; at times you need to be the 'bitch' to walk down the Valentine path.

That, in a nutshell, is best-selling author and columnist Sherry Argov's premise of her seminal books Why Men Love Bitches and Why Men Marry Bitches (do they!?)

The key to conduct new-age relationships is: discover the feisty attitude "that will turn you into a diva from a doormat," says Sherry.

So, do men like strong women?

The general consensus is that men get intimidated by strong, opinionated women who pose a challenge. But the truth is that any extreme is a turnoff. Whether you are the super aggressive sort or the dreamy, shy type, extreme behavior signals insecurity. On the contrary, there is nothing more attractive than a woman who has dignity and pride in who she is. So to woo the love of your life, be someone he desires. Hi, finally, Chittagong director, Bedabrato Pain, puts the record straight and it proves that the acerbic tirade of Anurag Kashyap against Big B was nothing but a publicity gimmick.

Frankly speaking, I liked Anurag's Gulaal and Dev D as much as I hated No Smoking; but I feel his outburst against Mr. Bachchan was unwarranted.

In fact Bedabrato says that while all this controversy played; he was having a conversation with Aishwarya and Abhishek!

I hope Anurag Kashyap will be careful in future and not resort to cheap publicity gimmicks.

Hi, so one more couple goes kaput. Liz Hurley is ending her marriage to Indian-origin tycoon Arun Nayyar. Hope the divorce is healthy for Arun; just yesterday I mentioned about it in Sex And The City :)

Censor-board has found promos of Turning 30 to be offensive; I support the film! The promos give a look that the story is about today's woman - and not just a woman with a bohemian outlook towards sense and sensibility.

Elsewhere, Kanti Shah made it in all the A-list newspapers with his C-grade film "Sheila Ki Jawaani' - there was a time when I used to wonder where do films made by Kanti Shah run; when I was driving from Delhi to Jim Corbett recently; I saw atleast 100 small and ultra-small theaters screening KS (that's what they call Kanti Shah movies). A distributor in Chandni Chowk told me KS is running his own industry just like YRF, Eros, Big Pictures or UTV!

Anyways, I won't watch his films ever, but his business model impresses me!

Does music act as the ultimate trigger to get couples in the mood for a good romp?

An article suggests yes; and what's more, everybody has a different tune to which he or she moves between the sheets.

While 'Unchained Melody' got Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in the mood in 'Ghost', others hot up to 'Bolero' by Revel and 'I Want Your Sex' by George Michael.

In a 'sex' play-list compiled by Jenny Block, the author of 'Open: Love, Sex, and Life in an Open Marriage' - the track, 'Dreamworld' by Robin Thicke came out to be a favorite.

Other song people played during sex is 'When The World Ends' by Dave Matthews. 'Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover' by Sophie B. Hawkins also made it to the list of the songs that make people head to the bedroom the moment they listen to them, reports Fox News.

Hi, finally TMK promos seem to be catching up and the cynics are commenting that it is Katrina's best act till date - because she doesn't have to act!

I really appreciate the gesture of the cast of No Problem who refused to party because of the tepid response the film garnered. Unlike the done norm of the industry to paint the flop a hit! The cast needs to be congratulated, not for their histrionics, but for this rare 'act' of theirs!

After Love Aaj Kal, Saif-Deepika duo will be back in a film scripted by Imtiaz Ali and directed by Homi Adjania (Being cyrus). I hope the music is as peppy as Love Aaj Kal.

The best read of all the film news last week was of course, Rajat Kapoor's candid confession that he prefers to do meaty roles in smaller films than small roles in big films! For me atleast it makes sense!

Can divorce be beneficial?

According to a recent study, for man's health - YES - claims a study.

Unfortunately, its not the same with women. Women who divorce are likely to become less fit, the Daily Express reported citing experts.

The latest findings suggest divorced single men pay more attention to their bodies to try to win a new mate.

Although the divorce rate in England and Wales is currently at its lowest for 29 years, it is the highest in Europe: 11.5 percent get divorce per 1,000 couple.

The latest study of 9,000 men and women was conducted by scientists at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm over eight years.

The researchers said: "There was a significant increase in fitness in men who divorced but a tendency towards a decrease in women who divorced.

"Single men have the pressure of keeping fit to increase their attractiveness and find a partner."

Hi, congratulations to Saina on winning the Hong Kong Super Series! A friend emailed me after watching my review of Band Baaja Baraat that since I am a film-maker myself, I should steer clear of reviewing movies.

Why?

I love reviewing films! Hi, went out with a friend today and bumped into an actress at Radisson's coffee shop. My friend got herself clicked with the actress. The actress looked at me, she was pretty annoyed, when I didn't behave like a starstruck fan and got myself clicked with her; but no - if she is a celebrity, I am a celebrity in my own right!

I have got myself clicked with people who matter - Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna, Subhash Ghai and a host of international actors and directors; but I fail to understand why I should get myself clicked with the likes of Shahrukh Khans, Ajay Devgns, Arjun Rampals, Saif Ali Khans, Katrina Kaifs, Raima Sens and Neetu Chandras of the world - I included the latter two as a friend very recently got herself clicked with these two actresses at IFFI in Goa. She was shocked when she called me to get myself clicked and I refused.

I would rather get myself clicked with a friend, acquaintance, an interesting girl I meet at a party or an actress I am working with; rather than a starlet.

I still remember, at Cannes Film Festival, my friend clicked a picture of Mallika Sherawat and me; I didn't even take the picture from my friend, forget using it. I got a picture clicked with Vida Samadzai, but that was only because she extended her best wishes to '69 Opposites Attract'. I guess I haven't used it, have I?

This reminds me of an interesting anecdote, at an after-party of IFFI, when the photographer took photos at our dinner table, I saw this beautiful girl in a mini-skirt and we got talking. After our conversation, the girl started speaking to a film-maker, then I got to know she is Padampriya. Guess, she is quite big in south, in north no one knows her! Had she been an upcoming actress or an ordinary girl, I would have used the pictures; but for now, yes, I am not using those pictures :)

Hi, of the films released in 3rd quarter (oct - dec) - I liked only Phas Gaya Re Obama and Actionn Replayy - I also liked Guzaarish in bits 'n' parts. No Problem that opened today is utter crap. I am told Anushka is a revelation in Band Baaja Baraat will catch up BBB tomorrow.

The day was hectic with a bit of scripting and meeting up with old friends.

An actress dropped in from Philippines and I took her out lunching at Berco's - God! Berco's in CP has changed a lot - but the taste of fruit beer remains the same. I got addicted to it, thanks to the time I was working with a news-channel. The evenings were spent in Berco's.

It was a time when I wasn't as widely traveled as I am today and for me Berco's was a favorite hangout.

This post has started reeking of nostalgia, anyways, nostalgia is sometimes good in life.

Hi, the morning ushered in some great news; a film commission extended an invite to shoot a guerrilla flick in their country and I emailed them back asking for a grant!

Hopefully, by Saturday everything should be in place!

If this happens, it will be my first 'official' shoot overseas; I have so far shot abroad guerrilla style ;)

The irony of the whole shoot will be, I will shoot a guerrilla flick taking the 'official' route!

Saw the promo of Game and it generates interest; but what on earth has Kangna done to her hair; she looks appalling rather than her appealing self! I like Kangna with her long curly tresses.

I am really looking forward to see the KBC today; though Dharmendra is a far cry from his 'garam Dharam' days; I like the chemistry Jai and Veeru still share onscreen.

Hi, the industry is abuzz with Anurag Kashyap acerbic tirade against Bachchan. A tabloid report states - Meanwhile, Kashyap’s post shockingly reads (sic), “See Chittagong, a far superior film made on the same subject as Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey.. At 1/8 th the cost, far superior actors and immense passion... Producers decided to sit on it, because of a phone call from someone, because that someone was trying desperately to save his son’s career... welcome to Bollywood, where whose son you are outshines all the hard work and passion and potential and talent. KHJJS came and went, now what?”

What I found to be absolutely juvenile was Anurag alleging that Big B stalled the release of Chittagong to benefit Abhishek’s KHJJS. First of all who knew about Chittagong in the first place?

Nobody; guess, the best way to garner publicity was to speak against a big name; in this case Mr. Bachchan.

Now, here is what will happen. If at all Chittagong releases; it will be a limited release. It will be a commercial failure and mark my words, it will be no better than KHJJS.

Hi, the news that Ekta Kapoor is making a film on the infamous 2004 DPS, RK Puram (a school in New Delhi, INDIA) sex scandal brought a smile on my face. My choice of subjects and my style of film-making is lapped up by none other than the czarina of Indian television. First of all she released a digital film commercially Love, Sex Aur Dhoka and made the best killing of the year (ratio-wise).

Now, she has gone ahead and will be shooting the film Paranormal Activity style.

I remember I wanted to shoot Virgin... Mira PA style and when I told one of the actresses I was auditioning my plans, she came with lame excuses like PA was a true story and all the bullshit; it was obvious that either she was not sure about VM or she wanted to work in a typical Bollywood set-up.

Anyways, I am sure the same actress would jump to do this Ekta Kapoor film!

The second co-incidence is Ekta has titled her film Raagini MMS; my film's title was MMS; registered with AMPTPP!

Guess, creative souls think alike!

Hi, after a hectic 15 day schedule that saw a lot happening; I am back to blogging.

- The shoot of indie n DOGMA flicks calendar 2011 wrapped up
- I attended IFFI, though only here and there
- Met film commissioners from Austria and Germany; they invited me to film
- Met the Polish Ambassador to India
- Partied almost all of these 15 day!
and of course my laptop got broken.

So, yes, it was quite worthwhile.

The buzz in the industry is the intelligent creativity of Deepika Padukone, who got rid of RK tattoo on the nape of her neck with an intelligent TMK tattoo; thereby winning favor from her first director Farah Khan.

Yana Gupta made news with her Sharon Stone moment at a child awareness event; hmmm... catch them young!

The biggest news, was though, made by Preity Zinta; suing a couple of websites for her alleged substance abuse and some of them even claiming that they have a photo of hers using the substance.

That reminds me of another photo that is doing the rounds of Shahrukh kissing a guy; well, most of the industry isn't shocked at all, are you?

Hi, as you set goals for yourself; you find you accomplish a lot of them, modify a lot of them and forego a lot of them!

I always wanted to take out a calendar; eversince I saw Vijay Mallaya's KF SS cal. I wanted to launch the 1st edition in 2013, dissipating the fact that 13 is unlucky; but things so happened that I am doing it 3 years before!

It was the suggestion of one of the investors that since you plan to launch indie n DOGMA flicks as an international DOGMA banner; it would be advisable that you take out a calendar that gives the essence of the films INDF wants to produce.

I liked the idea and fortunately everything fell in place.

At the onset, I wanted one model; but now I am making do with 6 models; 3 non-Indian and 3 Indian. The lead model is Lena; the results of the test-shoot have been extra-ordinary; let's hope my team creates something that I can proudly show to the show-stoppers in show-biz!

Hi, thank you everyone for sending in your best wishes for Virgin... Mira; some people who attended the screening; called in the evening and said the results were very good.

A few friends who couldn't attend the screening called me in the morning to know how the screening went and what the response was?

In one word 'terrific'!

The buzz in the industry is that makers of Tess Maar Khan are leaving no stone unturned to make it a blockbuster; but what really shocks me is the total absence or buzz on Ashutosh Gowariker directed Abhishek Bachchan starrer Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se.

With only about 3 weeks left; there is absolutely no publicity of the film that I can see.

Caught Naira Malik in the latest issue of Maxim and I must say she looks damn hot.
In fact, after the screening, one of the producers told me, "cast her!" I told him write a cheque of about 10,000 USD for her and 20,000 USD for me and within a month we will be shooting; I assure you of that!

Yes, after about a decade in the industry one thing is clear; money makes the things move fast.

Hi, a very hectic day; where I saw the history being made by team of indie n DOGMA flicks!

India's first film to be shot on Full HD Handycam had my entire team including the lead actresses in a tizzy. They were like how will the film look on big-screen?

I have always believed in showing rather than telling my cast and crew the possibility of the technology in creating cinema! It is a shame then that most of the professionals in India are so little-informed about the technological-innovations that has swept the making of films!

It is a tough call though convincing actors that we are making a film on a camera that is all of 5 inches of length, 2 inches of breadth and 3 inches of height! I want to confess over here that making of Virgin... Mira was the toughest all because of the size of the camera! Did I hear size does matter?

Jokes apart, one of the actresses after the audition and a day's shoot told me; she was fine with everything except that handycam kind camera. I told her it IS a handycam and in the contract it is clearly mentioned that the film will be shot on Full HD Handycam. She was skeptical; I let her go.

I found another actress the next day (the best part about Mumbai) gave her the money she wanted and bingo; the film was on; we shot in 3 days flat and I invited a few actresses I know to the cinema-screen screening and the actress who pulled out; while congratulating me asked me, "When are you shooting your next film?"

I told her, "no clue, as of now?"

She said, "whenever you are on, let me know, I am working for free, only for you."
Needless to say, I started liking her even more; such is the conviction.

I hope Virgin... Mira will open very many avenues for film-makers. I sincerely hope so!

Hi, I am preponing the screening of the test-show of Virgin... Mira to Saturday from Monday; reason being a producer from US wants to have a look at the film before he flies off on Sunday.

Let me see, if I can stretch myself to complete post-production two days in advance.

Of the 3 listless releases today; I saw A Flat on my friend's insistence and I must say that in spite of the rich production-values; the film failed to work! It also made me question; a producer spends 2-3 crore on such films (and the list of such films is very long in a year) don't they have any script-sense. If yes, why not pay a writer well and get a script that has a plausible screenplay and logical dialogues?

Anyways, guess most of the producers are least bothered about such simple things as - scipt!

Read an interesting article online.

It started with "How often have you checked your email account, only to be told that your Viagra order will be delivered soon? How often have you come across mails that guarantee better sex life with super male pills that surpass the Viagra? Have you found mails that market sex toys designed to trigger off miracles on the bed?"

E-mail accounts the world over receive bulk messages that permeate the toughest of blocks and contain nothing but absolute rubbish. There are hundreds of super freaks out there who, hidden behind masks of anonymity, concoct mails that play truant with people's personal space.

Here's the latest: a mail selling 'Generic Viagra, Viagra Professional, Viagra Soft Tabs, Viagra Super Active, Female Viagra' while promising discount on reorders! Anybody with any amount of common sense won't respond to such a mail. But, nobody should be blamed for thinking to one's self: why me?

A mail with an innocuous subject like 'Check This: Important' can take you to a series of sexually explicit pictures. Towards the end is the promise of a physically fulfilled life if you invest in some toys, boys. A smartly crafted subject could be 'Ref: cars', the text inside being a one-liner: 'Do you lack the drive?'

But, why most of these mails concentrate on that three-letter word — sex, what else — beguiles reasoning. Is it because a bunch of perverts believe that there are millions like them the world over? Or, is it because there are countless people who actually respond to such crazy visitors in their mailboxes? Whatever the answer, the fact is that the internet has turned sex into a bigger presence in our lives than ever before. Or else, how can you explain a mail during office hours that reads: Do you want it now?

A friend asked me why did I shoot Virgin... Mira on Full HD Handycam; my simple answer was and is: I see sense in making a conventional Bollywood film only with top actors budgeted around 30-40 crores. If at all I need to make a film other than that, I am very clear it will be in English for the international market. It will have unconventional subjects and unconventional style of filming. Entering it at all major film-festivals. There are no in-between films for me, unless I have a really out-of-the-box script (something like Bheja Fry, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Love, Sex Aur Dhoka or A Wednesday) or the lead actor or the lead actress are willing to invest.

Anyways, I went to Qube and got the test-shoot uploaded on their system and I hope the audiences after seeing the show, have nice things to say!

Hi, extremely happy today, the dubbing of Virgin... Mira came to an end and the BGM of the film starts tomorrow.

I today introduce a new format of film-making DOGME' 10.

Virgin... Mira becomes world's first film to be shot on DOGME' 10 and India's 1st film to be shot on Full HD Handycam.

A US based filmmaker, Neil Mandt, introduced me to handycam-films (if I can term it so). He made a film Last Stop For Paul; which he shot in 23 countries (if I am not wrong) without any work visa!

It amazes me how technology is making, making films easier than ever!

Can you imagine viewing a film shot on handycam on a big-screen say 5 years back?

No!

A special test-show of Virgin... Mira is scheduled on the big screen at Qube Preview Theater on Monday, November 15. (Oube is the distribution system used on all screens at Cinemax, Versova, Mumbai, INDIA)

Hi, Arya Ika made me proud by being the youngest delegate at 7! touring with Obama on his official visit to Asia. Such Indian-origin people make India proud.

I liked the poster of The Social Network at 18 he said no to microsoft, at 20 he dropped out of Harvard and at 23 he was world's youngest billionaire! I saw the film two weeks back, its an interesting film.

The big story though, is Udita Goswami's question to Amitabh Bachchan in BT. She says she was much happier when she lived in Dehradun and Delhi; when she didn't have fame. She is not as happy now.

A lot of friends I meet, share the same story. Like this friend of mine who just completed her debut film in US; says she was much more happy as a student.

My take is: simple the life, more the happiness; complex the life, less the happiness. I have found happiness is directly proportional to the expectations you have and the way they are met!

Like when I directed my first music-video in 2004; I wanted to work with this hot-shot model. I really pursued her like a man possessed and she didn't work with me. I was very unhappy. After about a year, when she worked with me, I found her to be very average. So, I laughed at myself at my stupidity and the state of me being unhappy. It taught me a lesson for life, be practical in your expectations and happiness will be yours :)

Hi, got off to a wonderful shoot today, early morning, with Lena and the test-shots for the calendar were just amazing!

Congratulatory SMS's and messages followed; I hope I am not raising the bar for indie n DOGMA flicks calendar.

Other happenings of the day, so far, have been; meeting with a producer and narration with a top-ranking director.

In the evening post-production of Virgin... Mira will continue. I might meet a friend after that at Aurus.

The news that an Indian origin woman became the oldest mom in the world when she delivered a baby in Australia at the ripe age of 57; made me feel proud. Indians can do anything in this world!

Obama's India visit will finally come to an end and newspapers were full off Obama's Mumbai visit. No worthwhile film is releasing this Friday, all eyes are now on Guzaarish. Let's see if Sanjay Leela Bhansali will dish out a Black with Guzaarish.

Hi, after a few hectic days; with Diwali-parties in the night and shooting of Virgin... Mira in the day, my life will hopefully have some peace for about a week or so!

I should wrap up the shoot of Virgin... Mira by Wednesday, if not eatlier and I guess I should have a rough line-up ready by the target date - November 15, in time to despatch the film to US.

The warm-up party of indie n DOGMA flicks calendar 2011 was a very happening event at Trilogy and of the 10 select people I invited; everyone quite liked the rushes of Virgin... Mira.

A friend introduced me to Lena, a model from Armenia and she got interested in the indie n DOGMA flicks calendar shoot; she was quite open to test-shots; if everything goes fine, we will be doing it on Monday, early morning, at Madh Island;
as I am anyways taking some shots for Virgin... Mira at MI, silent-languid kind.

I think God tests you hard before everything falls in place. Like I remember, casting the actress for Virgin... Mira was quite arduous because the part involved nudity, the language was English and the film targeted as a film-noir, cult film for
world cinema. Almost 90% of actresses I met weren't aware of world cinema. For them Hollywood is world cinema!

When I told an actress, the film will be shot in DOGMA style (to make her understand better something like Paranormal Activity), she got into an argument! I have always maintained, half knowledge is no knowledge; I told her either you be the director or the actor. That ticked her off, which served her right!

Not finding the right actress, I decided to defer the film, and then, on Friday night I met this amazing actress called Kavita and on Saturday afternoon we were shooting. I like such actresses who beleive in "let's do it", as that is the essence
of DOGMA style of filming - quick and result-oriented.

Though, Kavita is quite expensive (she took home 25 grands for two days!) I am sure Virgin... Mira will earn me much more than I had expected! Kavita is exquisitely beautiful and her face has the sparkle to add value to any film's poster.

All focus now will be on the post-production of Virgin... Mira; creating a cult, film-noir genre; as well as, conceptualizing the indie n DOGMA flicks calendar which has 'naturals' as its theme.

An article scared the living daylights out of me!

It said men using laptop in laps may be risking fertility. It elaborated men who use their laptops while keeping them in their laps could be risking their fertility, a new research in Melbourne has found.

This study by Fertility and Sterility has found that when men use their laptops in their laps instead of on their desks, they may be overheating those male parts, which, in turn, may be damaging their sperm.

In studies, even men who used laptop pads as a buffer between their machine and their man parts, dangerously overheated themselves within 10 minutes.

The authors noted that other research has shown that warming the scrotum more than 1.8 degrees is enough to damage sperm.

After one hour, the 29 subjects working with a laptop on their knees had raised the temperature in their testicles by more than 4 degrees. However, Yefim Sheynkin, lead author of the study and State University of New York urologist, stated that this is not proof that laptops definitely lead to infertility among men.

Finally Action Replayy is releasing and I must say the song with Aishwarya Rai "Chann Ka Mohalla" is going to be a surefire hit!

While the industry is going gaga over the promo of Tees Maar Khan; I think it is a very ordinary promo; but the film is sure gonna be a hit (may be blockbuster) and I am just waiting for Sheela Ki Jawaani number which I am told will give a new high to Katrina Kaif.

After 3 days of hectic partying, there are two more parties to wind off the Diwali festive season, but I might just skip a party today for I want to catch up with G3 and AR first thing on Friday.

Finally, there is some good news, which I will announce soon, once it is confirmed.

NO SATC as I am just pushing off for a couple of meetings and giving off Diwali gifts :)

Hi, the big news in the industry is will Action Replayy release at all on 5th November?

Reportedly, various distributors have filed cases against Vipul Shah for the debacle and losses they incurred from London Dreams (remember, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn). I hope matter is sorted out soon.

Last day rather night was terrific, had a great time partying with friends; slept at around 6 in the morning, but mom's call woke me up at around 7.45 am; her first salvo "did you go jogging?" I told her, I jog in the evening!

Anyways, Icouldn't sleep after that and then I got the most terrible news a film-maker can ever hear; but thankfully a friend bailed me out of the tricky situation and within 2 hours I was out of the blue (not literally!)

It seems this will be a weekend of parties; am off to another party today and I must confess, I am enjoying every bit of it!

The report that Uma Thurman wants to do a Bollywood film was a welcome news. Uma is one of the most radiantly beautiful persons I have seen in my life and there was a time when I was quite besotted by her!

A casting director showed me the pictures of Monica Dogra, who debuts with Aamir Khan's Dhobi Ghat for an international project I am starting work on; as a probable lead. Monica was just too hot and sizzling in a bikini and I liked the innocent
yet naughty expressions.

Will she be the next big thing, only time will tell!

Hi, a relatively easy day for me, tying up ends on various projects that I am starting in November.

Finally, the countdown has begun for Golmaal 3 and Action Replayy; it is natural that the successful G3 will have a better start. Aishwarya has two films releasing within a span of 15 days Action Replayy and Guzaarish. Surprisingly there is absolutely no hype for Guzaarish. Allah Ke Bande that releases in between hardly has any chance. I pray it is not a blatant copy of City of God, as claimed by various media reports.

Buzz is that promos of Tees Maar Khan will be out on Dhanteras or with Action Replayy, let's see.

Hi, finally the last schedule of Virgin... Mira is close to end; extremely excited to have the rough cut by November 15, can't wait to get my hands on it.

One thing thar irked me while casting for Virgin... Mira was an actress in Mumbai after confirming to shoot didn't call up or even had the courtesy to inform that she is not interested. It is these sort of actresses, who do nothing and take away a chance from another deserving actress. Mark my words, such actresses will never reach anywhere in life.

Virgin... Mira is relevant in today's time as it is about the use and abuse of women. One of the actresses I met to play the protagonist, complained that her boyfriend was ill-treating her.

Practically, her boyfriend is living off her in Mumbai; staying in her flat, driving her car, eating through her money. An attractive girl, I was amazed what made her stick to him. I mean she could get a much better guy, who might even shower love on her!

She said, "what if the other guy is abusive as well." Case, of known devil is better than an unknown devil, I guess. But then, why do successful women need guys at all. Hmmm... probably thought for a new film!

An email informs me that I might celebrate a white Christmas for the 2nd consecutive year. I might go to US in the last week of December. I still remember the chill at Frankfurt airport last December as I changed the craft. Guess, it will be as fun-filled as last time. I might be in US for a month or more, I just hope I am back in time for preparations for Cannes Film Festival.

The industry is abuzz with the news of Aamir Khan's new movie, it is slated for release on Christmas 2011; Aamir's golden period to release a film; TZP opened in 2007, Ghajini in 2008 and 3 Idiots in 2009; this year though it will be another AK on Christmas Akshay Kumar.

The buzz is that a new version of "Kama Sutra", the ancient Indian book known as the ultimate sex manual, will now be updated as a text-only "lifestyle guide for the modern man and woman". Instead of the erotic drawings and sexual illustrations that have accompanied various translations of the "Kama Sutra", the new edition, to be published by Penguin, will be a text-only pocket-sized handbook, described as a "classy" manual "covering every aspect of love and relationships", The Daily Telegraph reported.

The new version, written by A.N.D. Haksar, an Indian scholar and a leading translator of Sanskrit texts, will include chapters with headings such as "Making a Pass", "Why Women Get Turned Off", " Girls to Avoid", "Is he Worthwhile?", "Getting rid of him", "Easy Women", "Moves towards sex," and "Some Do's and Don'ts".

Haksar was quoted as saying: "The common perception of the 'Kama Sutra' is that it is only about sex, but any honest reading of the book shows that it is about lifestyle and social relations between human beings.

My effort with the new translation has been to stay as close as possible to the original text but to present it in a contemporary language which reflects the contemporary issues within the book."

The book is originally believed to have been written in the third century by Indian sage Vatsyayana, as a guide for the courtly gentleman of the time.

"Kama" means "the desire for sensual pleasure", but in contrast to popular theory, only one of the Kama Sutra's seven "books" is dedicated purely to sex.

The second and longest book outlines tips on how to enhance sexual pleasure and provides detailed descriptions of intricate sexual positions.

The six other sections deal with social etiquette and good-living, courtship, marriage, extramarital relations, mistresses and courtesans and advice on how to enhance one's physical attractiveness.

The book also includes relationship advice for women, such as avoiding men who talk too much or who have "breath which smells of crows".

The book also encourages women to seek out either a "fatalist wanting to spend his money fast" or a man "with a steady income" who is "as strong as a bull in sex", "full of life and not addicted to drinking" and "who flirts with them but is not in their control".

Alexis Kirschbaum, the editorial director at Penguin, said the new version of the book, to be published in February, would be "less pornographic, and more a lifestyle guide for the urbane and modern gentleman and woman".

"This is the most accurate, authentic version to date. Until now, the 'Kama Sutra' has always been presented as a scandalous, 1960s hippie-influenced pornographic sex book. But it was originally written as advice to a courtly gentleman on how to live a well-rounded life, not just a passionate life," she said.

"We are therefore stripping away all of those pornographic interpretations people have put on it and presenting the book as a modern and savvy guide for how to live well."

Hi, the recent news of Arundhati Roy's hostile comments on Kashmir irked me. Why doesn't she speak for the Kashmiri Pandits who have been displaced from the valley for about 20 years now?

Citizenship of people like Arundhati Roy, ought to be revoked and they need to be sent to Pakistan. Spew venom against India from Pakistan, it won't make a difference.

The news that Agent Vinod became the first Bollywood film to be shot in an East European country was interesting. Interestingly during the Cannes Film Festival, I got an invite from Montenegro to shoot in their country or atleast do a recce over there, but I just couldn't take time off; may be next year :)

Caught up with Rakta Charitra today and I feel Ramu made an interesting film. Though voilent, I liked the shots, the BG and the fact that the film was mostly taut; but the best aspect was the way Ramu intelligently blended the teaser of Rakta Charitra 2 in the film with a release date November 19th. Shows the clarity and conviction the man has in his films.

I also like Ramu for his unapologetic tone as far as his films are concerned. Like he might have given 10 flops back to back, but the man is making films back to back. Anyone can make a film after giving a hit; but only Ramu can make films flop after flop. Commendable!

Hi, hectic day, meeting people, some amazing, some boring and some plain uptight! It amazes me how life can be so wonderful in spite of uptight people around!

Had a sizzling sizzler for lunch and will be going to Aurus (one of my fav hangouts in Mumbai) for dinner. A couple of friends have turned up from Delhi.

The response to the 1st teaser of Virgin... Mira has been emphatic and the fact that I will be at Cannes Film Festival again in 2011 already gives me a high! Just can't wait for May, but then hey, May will be here soon!

A friend with whom I shot an adfilm about a year ago, got into the Kingfisher Calender Girl contest. She asked me, "will Bollywood now be easy?"

"Just jump onto the band-wagon and you will know!" I chuckled.
My take is everything is easy. Success depends on your approach and attitude.

The not so good part is my Goa trip got delayed, I was supposed to reach today, but for some unseen problem! Hell, I hate delays when models concerned are extremely beautiful. The good part she is coming along to Aurus, so smile!

More dope on the video-shoot, the producer is insisting that I shoot in Bombay; but the contours & landscape of Goa are totally different! Oh yeah, Kerala with serene atmosphere and majestic house-boats seem to be a plausible option, let's see.

One of the days that adds to my achievements!

Met Oliver Stone today one on one and boy! What a meeting it was!

I just couldn't believe that I was telling the man who directed JFK (one of my faves) that I am an ardent fan of his work.

The first glimpse I got of Oliver was as he entered the round-table meet at Sun 'n' Sand which had filmmakers like Sriram Raghvan, Sudhir Mishra, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Kunal Kohli, Shimit Amin. Zoya Akhtar, Ayaan Mukherji and of course others whose names my failing memory doesn't permit to remember!

Such was the excitement that Zoya, Ayaan and Sriram sat on the carpet just to be near Oliver Stone!

Oh yes, a goof-up happened when I didn't recognize Chetan Bhagat and rather naively asked, "Hi, we haven't been properly introduced. I am Amit R Agarwal, indie film-maker". He very quaintly replied "I am Chetan Bhagat."

All in all a very good day!

Oh yeah! Reason to celebrate, Virgin... Mira promo reached 100 hits and 69 Opposites Attract promo crossed 3000 hits on youtube; the collective hits on 69 Opposites Attract promo, on youtube, crossed the 10,000 mark!

Hi, just returned from a party thrown by a distributor friend. We caught up with a Canadian film at MAMI - Twice A Woman.

It had a brilliant performance by Evelyn Rompre; unfortunately, we had to leave the film mid-way because of the party.

What I really liked about the film was the way it was shot. Handheld camera with director opting for color and monochrome. I really liked the switch he made in the narrative, I don't know how many observed that. Guess, the film was mostly shot in
DOGMA style. It also gave me some ideas, about shooting the remaining schedules of Virgin... Mira.

The buzz created by the promo seemsto be good. Let's see how it goes.

The opening of Hisss has shocked many; a terrible film, as told by a few friends; Hisss has got a 60% opening; the film has taken one of the best openings in 2010! Salutations to Mallika for being such a brand. I doubt any other heroine including Katrina or Kareena can pull off a 60% opening for a woman-centric film. Never!

This also reminds me that Dia Mirza has become a producer. Welcome Dia, we need more actresses donning the mantle of actress-producer. Just one advice, concentrate on the script!

Hi, caught up with Jhootha Hi Sahi and I must confess Abbas is nowhere near his Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa mark. Disappointing, in that sense; but the fact that it is much better than the Crook's and Knock Out's of the world once again reiterate the
terribly sorry state of the Indian Film Industry.

Won't be able to catch up with Hisss and RaktaCharita, owing to my busy schedule.

There was a report in a tabloid about a 'who's that girl?" in Ranbir Kapoor's life. Turns out, she is none other than Nargis Fakhri; has the publicity blitz for Rockstar already started?

Some bad blood brewed between the actress, I was talking to; after she read my blogpost. My producer friend hada ready solution, let's have a joint meeting with her and then see her reaction! Makes sense :)

Hi, a rather sweet gesture from one of my actresses took me by surprise. She gifted me a tuxedo; she wants me to wear it on the Cannes red-carpet next year! A simple thank you, won't be enough to thank her, so I am planning something.

The news that Kasab spat on camera in the honorable court, made me wonder, is Indian government really serious about India's prestige?

I mean for two years the trial has been going on. It is like Salman Khan's juvenile and idiotic statement that 26/11 was a minor incident. Imagine the fate of Kasab, if he had done the carnage in Pakistan.

Guess, India should adopt Israel's anti-terrorsim code.

Of the 3 films releasing tomorrow, I think Jhootha Hi Sahi should fare better at big cities while Hisss will fare better at smaller centres. Yesterday, I went to Naz Cinema and the distributors say that the only 3 films to look forward to this year as of now, are; Action Replay, Golmaal 3 and Tees Maar Khan.

Well, I think Band Baaja Baaraat might just spring a surprise and Break Ke Baad, if supported by a strong content, too has the potential. And then of course, Guzaarish is there; but the promos haven't really excited; so everything again will depend on the film.

India is abuzz with the 'desi' style wedding of Katy Perry with Russell Brand. However, singer Katy Perry, who is days away from getting married to Russell dropped a bomb by saying, had she been single she would have slept with singer Cheryl Cole.

Katy, who was recently a guest judge alongside Cheryl, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell on 'The X Factor', is in awe of Cheryl.

'I adore Cheryl - she's amazing. I'm very happy with my own English stud, but if I wasn't with him I'd be trying to date Cheryl,' contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.

'Nobody should be as beautiful as she is. I know people get turned on by Simon's power but if I was single I'd rather sleep with Cheryl than Simon.'

Hi, the first two days of the week were extremely hectic. While Monday and Tuesday went auditioning a couple of actresses, my poster designer sent me the 1st look of Virgin... Mira and my promo-cutter gave me the 1st teaser of Virgin... Mira.

One of the actresses from VM threw a bash yesterday night at Marriott and she was extremely happy that after showing the rushes of Virgin... Mira she got a very big film with a six-figure remuneration!

I congratulated her and forewarned her; just see the film gets completed!

She chuckled, ah! I didn't even bother to look at the script, its for money, honey; for a plum role that requires an actress I will always rely on your indie films.

Hmmm... let's see!

A friend introduced me to an award-winning actress and an actress who played a parallel lead in a recent blockbuster.

As we sipped coffee and I told her about her part in Virgin... Mira; I told her there are fleeting references of nudity.She said she is very comfortable with the film; but not with nudity! I told her than let's work on some other film.

As she left, a friend, a top-producer joined in for coffee. He is making India's 1st Indo-Italian co-production. He asked me what was the actress doing with me, I told him, she was here for narration for a role in Virgin... Mira, but was averse to nudity.

The producer chuckled and I am sorry to put it in over here, but chances are the said actress might read this blogpost and know what producers in Bollywood think of her "Bitch, she is sleeping around with half of the industry and has qualms about nudity". I wasn't surprised, for this is the precise reason, why Bollywood is called - shallow industry.

Hi, two film news made interesting read. First was the debacle of Knock Out and the fate of Sanjay Dutt's films. It even claimed that producer of Sanjay Dutt's last release Lamhaa, Bunty Walia, is on the verge of bankruptcy. While everyone who
spoke in the article had his/her take. My take is simple, concentrate on the script and success will follow.

The best example is 3 Idiots, not many liked the promo, even the rage All Izz Well, was panned in music reviews; still the film went on to become history. Similarly, Robot, had a good script.

It is surprising then, that why film-makers don't concentrate on script. The best example is Shahrukh; all his films have a very good script; when the script is not good he comes up with a Don or Billu or MNIK.

The other news-report was the nudity in Hisss and Govind Menon claiming that Mallika had shot it. Just look at the timing of this news, Hisss opens just three days later. Naturally, it is a publicity stunt then, as was the case in Aruna Shields
movie. The point is nudity alone can't sustain a film unless supported by a rich context or interesting plots.

Yes, but I do agree with Menon, when he says if actresses want to make it in Hollywood and compete with Salma Hayek or Angelina Jolie they need to shed inhibitions. Like I was speaking to an Oscar winning director and he told me that west is looking for Indian actresses; but their onscreen-inhibitions deter international producers to cast them!

Yesterday, I mulled whether to change my DP for a week to a passionate smooch pose as suggested by the festival director of a European Film Festival.

The response is that my current DP is rocking and I don't need to change anything about it. A friend said "don't even dare change your DP", hahaha sometimes friends can get overtly possessive.

Hi, I was off blogging for almost a week; reason being I was shooting Virgin... Mira.

Virgin... Mira has many firsts to it.

It is my first English language feature film.
It is my first film to be shot in multiple schedules.
It is the first film to be made under the banner of indie n DOGMA flicks.

I shot the schedules in Mumbai and Goa.

Goa is a lovely place to be at this point of time, rain-drenched look makes it overtly romantic :)

The Goa schedule also taught me, never to break the rules I set, to make films; but then I was convinved by the chat!
Blame it on chat... hehehe! The entire episode inspired and fired me enough to write a new film and hopefully I will make
a film out of it one day or someday!

Inspiration and fire can indeed come from strangest of incidents; like I read the news that a rapper in Brooklyn composed a
best-selling number; because he was tired of men ogling at his mother!

Weird inspiration indeed!

Hi, after a bout 90 days I might go to Mumbai today or may be tomorrow!
It will be a hectic schedule in Mumbai!

The big news is, it happened sooner than I had predicted! I had said very soon Dabangg record of 1st weekend and 1st week will be broken; I had predicted, may be by Tees Maar Khan; but in less than a month the record was shattered by Robot.

The 1st week of Robot stands at a whopping 117 crores!

Everyone is praising Do Dooni Chaar and though I had no plans to see it, now I have plans to catch up with the film.

Hi, a hectic day that totally threw my schedule out of gear!

Saw Crook today and it appalled me how a film-maker can be so callous about the racial attacks on Indians in Australia. It makes a total mockery of this sensitive issue. Let's see if the film succeeds.

The big Q at Chandni Chowk right now is will Hisss be a hit. The film, if I am right releases on October 22 with Jhootha Hi Sahi. If the film is a success it would mean a lot to Jennifer Lynch. I guess, this is her second film after she made debut in 90's.

Hi, I met a friend recently, after about 6 months and the 1st thing she reacted to, was the weight I had put on!

"Gawd! you look awful." Well, that is my look in the film I just wrapped up!

She was horrified... hehehe...
I told her to meet me in January, by which time, hopefully, I should be back in shape!

A lawyer, she said that the verdict in Priyadarshini Mattoo case was too lame. Then she dicussed the TISS case. She made some interesting observations.

She said that the assumption that the calls during the time-line of the supposed 'assault' were made from the victim's cell-phone!
What if the calls were made by the accused?
Were the voice-recordings of those calls; presented to the court?

The absence of signs of rape in medical report is possible too!
The matter was reported after 72 hrs. and the victim was passed out during the supposed assault.

The observation I made is, she would be a very big lawyer in future!
I haven't yet read the detailed news on TISS case. I agree, the accused 'might' be innocent.
All I want is truth should prevail. Justice be done. If the 'victim' has made up a case against the 'accused', appropriate action should be taken against her.

Jhootha Hi Sahi has been shifted by a week and I don;t understand the producer's logic for the shift, anyways, I am looking forward to the film.

October 6, I really don't know how important is it historically, but for me it is the day when I made debut as a director for fiction - shorts, docudramas, etc. It has been 5 years and in 5 years I have given direction to about 2000 hrs. of programming if not more. Researchers have found that the belief that women like to cuddle after sex is not a myth!

A new study on the after-sex behaviors has suggested that women were more likely than men to initiate and place greater importance on behaviors linked to intimacy and bonding with both long and short-term partners.

The study examined the responses to an online questionnaire given to 170 people.

Females placed an overall great importance than did males on all five items measured: intimate talking, kissing, cuddling and caressing, professing their love for their partner and talking about the relationship after sex.

In contrast, men placed more importance on gaining extrinsic rewards after sex (e.g. drinking or smoking, eating, or asking partner for favors). Men also placed more importance on continuing sexual activity than did females.

According to the study, men were more likely to initiate kissing before sex, while women were more likely to initiate kissing after sex.

Additionally, females thought intimate talking and discussing the relationship was more important before sex than after. Males opinion remained constant for both before and after sex.

One thing both men and women could agree was the importance of saying "I love you" to a long-term partner after sex.

The findings were published in the Journal of Sex Research.

A report in Sunday Times, London says that for the women in UK ‘I DO’ CAN WAIT - as the average age of first-time brides in the UK has crossed 30 for the first time!

According to the report, the bride is keeping everybody waiting. The average age of women getting married for the first time has passed 30 and is still rising, while the number of weddings is the lowest for more than a century.

The desire for a successful career, the rise of cohabitation and greater fussiness over choosing a husband mean that many women feel no urgency about getting married, sociologists say.

Provisional figures compiled by the Office for National Statistics show that the average age of first-time brides reached 30 in the first quarter of last year and 30.1 in the second quarter. In 1966 the average in England and Wales was 22.5; it was 25.5 in 1991.

The average age of first-time bridegrooms passed 30 in 1999 and now stands at 32.

Overall, when remarriages following divorce or death are taken into account the average age of brides is 33.8 and of bridegrooms is 36.5. ONS records go back to the 1840s when first-time marriages for women under 20 outnumbered those for women over 30.

The figures for today also show there are fewer weddings taking place. A total of 232,990 couples married in 2008 (not just first marriages) - the lowest number since 1895.

Relationship experts believe the rise in the age of first-time wives is the result of women using their twenties to enjoy freedoms and opportunities instead of worrying about being “left on the shelf”.

Anjaana Anjaani made me realize one thing; why can't the makers just make a popcorn fare; why throw in unnecessary emotional baggage, when it isn't working even! Still, I feel Anjaana Anjaani should be a safe movie.

The reviews and word of mouth for Robot is extremely positive, will have to see the film to really comment; while Khichdi and Benny Aur Babloo didn't even create a whimper!

Giving up smoking can dramatically improve flagging sex lives, according to a study conducted by a Hong Kong university.

The University of Hong Kong study found 53.8 percent of smokers being treated for impotence said that their problems eased within six months of stubbing out their nicotine habits.

That figure compared to just 28.1 percent of men treated for erectile dysfunction who continued smoking, meaning quitters have a 91.5 percent greater chance of a better sex life.

Sophia Chan, a professor who helped conduct the survey, said erectile dysfunction was "very prevalent" in China and Asia and added that programmes to help smokers quit should be extended across the region.

Her colleague Lam Tai-hing said: "Smokers should be aware of such adverse effects from their smoking and should quit now to prevent erectile dysfunction and other diseases caused by smoking.

"In fact, erectile dysfunction patients who smoke can expect some quick benefits after quitting smoking."

More than 700 men suffering from erectile dysfunction aged 30 to 50 took part in the three-year study by the university's School of Public Health and Nursing.

A survey in Britain has found that couples who have sex over four times a week before their wedding, barely have it once a week three years after tying the knot,

The survey conducted among 3,000 married couples found that after three years of married life, there is a dramatic drop in the couples sex life and most couples have sex just once every seven days.

Six out of ten couples think that marriage has completely ruined the excitement of having sex, Daily Mail reported.

Another astounding result of the survey was that just below half of all married couples said that their relationship was more like friends than lovers.

"Unfortunately, while you can be deeply in love with someone and want to spend the rest of your life with them, it is also possible to want more from the relationship," a spokesman for extra-marital dating service www.lovinglinks.co.uk was quoted as saying.

"A partner might be supportive, funny, intelligent, and kind, but if they don't inspire confidence in the bedroom, or don't meet expectations, sexually life can be frustrating," he added.

He said: "It is at times like this when eyes start to wander, and folks start to think about having a no-strings affair with someone else. We have good reason to believe many relationships are strengthened by a little out-of-marriage activity."

The survey revealed that 59 percent of couples think that their sex life had worsened after marriage.

The mystery behind continuously ticking human biological clock might have been solved by the biologists at University of Pennsylvania.

Richard Schultz and Michael Lampson showed that this basic fact of reproductive life is most likely caused by weakened chromosome cohesion. It causes an increase in aneuploidy, the term for an abnormal number of chromosomes during reproductive cell division.

With age, egg cells experience decreasing amounts of a protein, REC8 that is essential for chromosomes to segregate correctly during the process that forms an egg.

Because cohesion in these cells is established during foetal development, and must remain functional up to 50 years or so in humans, defective cohesion is a good candidate for a process that might fail with increasing maternal age.

During these studies, the scientists noticed that sister kinetochores ” the protein structures that mark the site where a chromosome pair is split during cell division - are farther apart in metaphase II eggs from older mice at 16 to 19 months of age compared to eggs from young mice of 6 to 14 weeks of age, a finding that drew their attention to explore reduced cohesion as a primary source for age-related aneuploidy.

The study appeared in the journal Current Biology.

The eternal debate on the 'age' when a man or a woman can be considered 'sexy' don't seem to find any end.

While earlier studies concluded that women are sexiest at '21' which was dispelled for a more ripe '24' only to be discounted in a new study for a more mature '33'; there seems to be no study as to the 'sexy-age' for a man!

However, a new study has shown that women now find men sexy right up to the age of 55. It means fellows in that age range can still pull in girls but once they reach 56 they become "invisible" to the opposite sex, the poll suggests.

Three in four women are now also happy to date bald men, compared with half in the 1980s. Four in five don't mind dating chaps with a slight paunch.

Women told researchers older men were becoming sexier as they worked harder to keep in shape and wear better clothes.

Debenhams quizzed more than 1,000 people.

"Older men no longer look or act like grandads. They often look at least ten years younger than they really are," the Sun quoted a spokeswoman as saying.

The cover-page story of DT detailed, how the court trashed plea against Dhobi Ghaat; which I had reported 4 days back (blogpost 809). Adman Prahlad Kakkar says that a law should be passed for petitioner to deposit 50,000/- while filing such cases.

I think the amount should be upped to 5 lacs atleast, what is 50,000/- in today's times; nothing!

Anjaana Anjaani are everywhere it seems and I feel that it should open in the range of 50%-60% if not more!

An expert has explained why this happens. Professor David Perrett, of the University of St Andrews, said that the characteristics of our parents are imprinted in our minds as children, so that we remember and recognize our parents from a very early age.

This is a result of observing our families at close quarters and is seen in other mammals as well, reports the Daily Mail.

But it seems these 'remembered' characteristics do influence who we find attractive in later life.

The researchers conducted a large-scale survey, asking 300 men and 400 women (all of whom were in a relationship and who had been brought up by two parents) about their hair and eye colour, as well as that of their partner and their parents.

From this information, they found that the main predictor for the choice of a partner's eye and hair colour - for men and women - was the eye and hair colour of the parent of the opposite sex.

Your own hair and eye colour, or those of the parent of the same sex, were far less important, this means if a woman's father has dark hair and dark eyes, her partner is likely to have a similar appearance.

But it's not just parents' colouring that affects the partners we choose in later life - it's their facial features as well.

Researchers at the University of Pecs, Hungary, compared individual photographs of young, married couples with individual photographs of their parents at a similar age to them.

Participants in the study were asked to match up the newlyweds, and then pick out the couples' parents.

The researchers noted that the participants identified a distinct facial resemblance between the young newlyweds.

My trip to Bombay got deferred yet again as I am not happy with the script; so I should now be in Bombay by October 10 or 11. God, I have been out of Bombay for almost 4 months now!

Do women love geeks?

An article states that women might lust over hunks like Brad Pitt and George Clooney, but when it comes to relationship, they prefer a dorky geek who really knows how to fix things.

According to a survey of 3,000 women, almost three quarters of the respondents said they were more attracted to men who understand gadgets and technology than blokes who spend hours keeping himself fit.

Almost half the women polled want a man around the house who can help sort out the TV, stereo, and home computer. More than half said having chap who knows how to fix things makes them feel cared for, the Daily Express reported.

The survey found that occasionally, not being good with gadgets can spell the end of a beautiful romance. One in 20 women admit to dumping a guy because they knew more about fixing gadgets than he did - "it's not you, it's me, I've this thing about geeks".

More than half would not even consider dating a man who was no good at 'do it yourself'. Almost nine out of 10 revealed they find men who spend their spare time down at the gym a total turn-off, the study revealed. And, only one in three said they would go for a muscley bloke.

It seems that women value a man who can give them support in practical ways, as well as emotionally!

Hi, a friend reacted on a headline in a national daily "If army could really make the over-bridge at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium for a fraction of a cost; why was the bridge outsourced in 1st place?"

The answer is anybody's guess to siphon off money.

Another friend who is a contractor ranted that everyone makes money and everybody in the system is corrupt; but one should be corrupt with principles!

Guess, that is the change in ideology, globally!

The 'poverty porn' cake found its way on the front page of HT City and a few friends cheekily emailed that my blog-post has made 'news'! Hahaha.

A few trade-experts in the industry are scared after seeing the promo of Guzaarish; the fear is that Guzaarish might have a Saawariya kind of box-office fate. Whatever the fate, I liked the 1st promo and I am going to see the film 1st day 1st show.

Men who earn less than their female partner are more likely to cheat finds a study!

It is because cheating may be a man's way of trying to restore his gender identity when he feels it is under threat, Christin Munsch, a sociology doctorate candidate at Cornell University, says in the study, which she authored and presented at the annual meeting of the American Sociological Association.

"Making less money than a female partner may threaten a man's gender identity by calling into question the traditional notion of men as breadwinners, this relationship may be particularly strong for certain subgroups of the population that highly value traditional masculinity, like Latino men," she added.

Indeed, the study found that infidelity dramatically increased when the man earning less than his female partner is Latino, probably because breadwinner status is "one of the defining features of Hispanic masculinity."

The study indicates ways to prevent one's partner cheating without giving up the well-paid day job.

Both sides being satisfied in a relationship is a sure-fire way to make infidelity disappear.

Looking for a partner in a university library, lab or lecture might also be a good idea because, the study says, "the more education one reports, the less likely he or she is to engage in infidelity."

Munsch analyzed data on 1,024 men and 1,559 women who were married or living with a partner for at least a year for the study, which also found that, for whatever reason, men were around twice as likely as women to be unfaithful - 6.7 percent of men cheated in a six-year period versus 3.3 percent of women.

An article in UK based Guardian called the cake 'Poverty Porn'

Hi, Shabana Azmi's birthday cake was slammed by UK newspaper, Guardian's writer Parvez Sharma in a piece called 'Is a slumdog birthday cake not the real poverty porn?'

The birthday cake to celebrate Shabana's birthday was of the shape of a slum; a party guest was so appalled that the guest shared the picture with the Guardian scribe! Making of yet another controversy.

Yesterday I was speaking to a producer and distributor in Chandni Chowk and he gave me a very interesting insight into the business today.

He said make a film where the characters are already identifiable for the audiences. The reason being the 4th installment of Resident Evil including the dubbed version in Hindi is doing better business than Hindi films with the exception being of course Dabangg.

He justified his observation with the fact that James Cameron is mulling over making a sequel to Avatar and India gets its 1st third-follow-up with Golmaal franchise.

He said sequels are always considered to be a safe bet in Hollywood and Bollywood is following suit with sequel of Dhamaal already on floors.

Makes sense!

The makers of Anjaana-Anjaani might be ruing their decision to postpone the film; today was just the right day with people really wanting a new film, anyways as they say destiny!

An article "Does practicing Pilates make for better sex?" was interesting.

The fitness blog SocialWorkout polled its fitness community to see if Pilates is the answer for better sex. The poll asked "Does Pilates have an unusually strong positive impact on sexual performance and satisfaction, or is it more or less the same as any other rigorous form of workout?"

And the blog offered these four possible answers:
- Pilates made me one with my perineum. It's mystical.
- Very good, but let's [not] get carried away.
- Yoga provides a greater range of motion, and has more soul.
- I prefer a bottle of wine and Barry White.

The comments on the poll varied with some talking up the 'pelvic floor workout' benefits.

"My friends who have borne children swear by Pilates for, um, restoration. And I've known more than one over-50 woman who found it very helpful for bladder difficulties. So yeah, I think there's something to this," noted sadie.

Susanna wrote, "I think the difference needs to be noted between being a better lover & having better orgasms. Not the same thing at all, you can tone your pelvic floor & have better orgasms through either yoga (mulabanda) or through pilates, but you can still be lousy in bed."

Zuzupetals responded, "I know that in Pilates, there's a lot of talk of contracting the pelvic floor for the ladies, so you're basically doing a lot of Kegels while blasting the heck out of your core, but if Pilates and Yoga were sexual experiences, I would equate Pilates with the slam-bam-thank-you-ma'am approach and yoga would be the Barry White lover, complete with candlelight, soft music, the occasional aromatherapy and gentle neck rub."

Hi, the news that the Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a plea against Dhobi Ghat; finding no merit in the petition and also imposing a cost of Rs.25,000 on the petitioner is really a trend-setter against those people who file frivolous cases against film-personalities.

There have been such pleas and cases in the past and hopefully such verdicts will act as a deterrent; as such cases only waste the precious time of any legal framework.

It may be recalled that Aamir Khan's new movie Dhobi Ghat got an overwhelming response when screened at the recent Toronto International Film festival.

A recent confession by X factor judge Simon Cowell that he has had sex with almost 2,000 women(!) raised many a eyebrows in entertainment industry!

Media-analysts feel that the multi-millionaire's 'good times' ran through the 80s and 90s, for 20 years, which means he might just have racked up the 'magic number'.

First it was Tiger Woods caught cheating on wife Elin, then Jess James on Sandra Bullock and now Peter Crouch, caught cheating on Abbey Clancy.

Why do they do it - despite having celebrities as their wives or girlfriends?

"Famous people are thrown into the limelight; they start believing they are above the moral standards of other people," The Sun quoted psychologist Colin Gill, as saying.

"They are used to doing what they like, when they like. This often transcends to sex. They may live in a fantasyland where normal rules do not apply," he added.

Hi, more CWG shame came when in less than 24 hrs. there was another collapse.

The way Delhi has been flooded should shame the Indian Government that turned a bind eye letting builders flout all norms of drainage and sanitation; come to think of it, we are also a part of the shame as we are the ones who not only vote wily politicians to power, but also, buy bungalows, row-houses, flats from these builders.

Went to Connaught Place, New Delhi today abd with less than a fortnight to go, the place is still dug-up. Though I found a heavy contingent of police, I found they are not people-friendly.

I reprimanded a cop in Janpath for being rude to a foreigner who was asking her way about! My background as a journalist came in good stead, but what if I was a man with relatively no contacts. Now, I fully understand what the emails meant when they questioned me about safety in India.

As I said let's hope for the best. Saw the atrocious promos of a film called Benny Aur Babloo; what is KK Menon doing in the film, makes me shudder.

An interesting article revealed, the right moves for men on the dance floor!

Men who wish to attract women on the disco floor would be better advised to learn a few moves that answer the female mating drive rather than bother with the moonwalk.

Psychologists have identified the key male dance movements that most arouse female interest - and all are to do with central body motions which send out primal signals of health, vigour and strength.

A team led by Nick Neave of Northumbria University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, northeastern England, filmed 19 men aged 18-35 in a lab as they danced to a standard disco beat. None of whom was a professional dancer, they wore reflective markers that studded their body and were filmed by 3D cameras. The footage was used to create a dancing avatar, or animated figure, that was faceless and genderless.

37 young heterosexual women were then shown 15-second clips of the avatars and were asked to judge which dance movements were the most attractive.

Eight "movement variables" emerged which distinguished the trolls from the Travoltas.

"Attractive" dancers did wider and bigger movements of the head, neck and torso, and did faster bending and twisting movements of their right knee (greater movements of the right knee rather than the left were to be expected, as 80 percent of the dancers favored their right leg).

In contrast, "unattractive" dancers tended to be stiff and plod - and throwing their arms around was no substitute for fast, variable movement of the central body region.

"Men all over the world will be interested to know what moves they can throw to attract women," said Neave.

"We now know which area of the body females are looking at when they are making a judgement about male dance attractiveness.

Bad news for Bollywood lovers - Anjaana Anjaani has been postponed by a week to October 1; reportedly the producer Sajid Nadiadwala didn't want to take any chances with his film with the court-verdict on disputed structure out on the same date.

People opine that it will definitely eat into the business of Anjaana Anjaani as it will clash with two releases Aakrosh and Robot. The other releases of the week Khichdi, etc. don't even count.

Let's see, I think Anjaana Anjaani should be a hit.

An article states that some women can actually think their way to orgasm. It says scientists have been intrigued by the claims of some women who insist that they can 'think themselves to orgasm', all by themselves.

A few years ago, researchers began working with brain imaging scanners to show what is actually happening in a woman's brain during orgasm.

"The pleasure centres of the brain associated with orgasm light up in women who think themselves to orgasm in exactly the same way as in women who orgasm through more conventional means," says Barry Komisaruk, who co-authored The Science Of Orgasm, Daily Mail reported.

Significantly, the women he examined may all have thought themselves into a state of bliss, but they all did it in different ways. "Some women used a combination of breathing exercises and fantasy," he says. 'While others used their imagination and pelvic floor exercises."

"Some imagined erotic scenarios,' Komisaruk adds. "But others imagined very romantic scenes such as a lover whispering to them. Others pictured more abstract sensual experiences, such as walking along a beach or imagining waves of energy moving through their body."

Jill Morrison, a 40-year-old legal secretary, says: "I don't need to actually create a sexual fantasy in my mind - I just focus on wanting an orgasm, and my body responds." And, according to Jill, it wasn't just a one off either.

Komisaruk admits, "there's still a lot about female sexuality that we don't fully understand, but with the introduction of MRI scanners, we're learning a lot more."

Hi, the recent attack in Delhi needs to be condemned. It proves once and for all that terrorism knows no religion and that innocent and gullible people are recruited in the name of religion to hit, while the top bosses savour the lavish lifestyle of the money they make out of this business.

In the end, it is all about power and politics.

A few friends who are visiting CWG emailed me is India safe. I sincerely pray that CWG happens without any untoward incident. It reminds me of a French producer, Naomi, whom I met at Cannes. After discussing work, she said "OK Amit I want to ask you something personal. I am planning to visit India, is it safe to travel across India with a female friend?"

My advise to her was India is as safe or as dangerous as any other country in the world. "Just follow a few safety-tips and you should be safe."

The big entertainment news doing the rounds is that Sahara is buying out MGM, which is great news for movie-industry and not just Bollywood; if true. For the uninitiated MGM has made some of the eternal classics in cinema.

Hi, KBC 4 created a record of sorts by getting a terrific response as soon as the lines opened up. Saw the "Akbar ka baap kaun thaa" teaser and I must say it rocks!

The buzz is that KBC 4 will open on Bachchan's birthday; that will be great. It's been a decade since KBC first opened in 2000 and the frenzy it creates is still unmatched!

The Kashmir turmoil pains me as it does every patriotic Indian; but what pains me more is the lack of a political will to come down strongly against the terrorists. The way world turned a blind eyes to the 100's and 1000's of displaced Kashmiri Pandits is indeed shocking; irony being, late Shri Jawaharlal Nehru was himself a Kashmiri pandit.

The kind of people, Indians are electing to parliament will ensure that very soon the good work of people like Mahatma Gandhi is undone and Indians are once again relegated to the dark ages of suppression.

The reason this post has a political tone is that I was invited to a political party yesterday and I met a couple of top-shots from Congress, BJP and a few other parties and the discussion veered to India's secular image.

Anyways, cutting short the decayed cesspool of politics; let's talk about Sex and the city, which drew a good response yesterday when reintroduced.

Zumba, the electrifying dance fitness form is fast catching on in popularity with more and more gyms holding classes on these ‘dancercises’.

Just what is Zumba?

An exhilarating high-energy hour-long exercise form involving Latino, hip-hop and belly dance moves, aerobics and usually Latino music (salsa, meringue, cumbia, reggaeton, samba, mambo, chachacha, tango among others) that came into being in Cali, Columbia in the 1990s thanks to the innovative talent of celebrity fitness trainer, dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez.

Zumba was an accidental creation. Perez once forgot to take his music records to his aerobics class and at the spur of the moment took out whatever tapes he had in his bag - a mix of Latin salsa and meringue. His initial nervousness of playing the unconventional music to his students gave way to excitement when he discovered that his students loved the makeshift music. He had stumbled upon an improvised form of aerobics! Perez made more improvisations and called his discovery 'The Zumba Fitness Party'.

An interesting improvisation is that certain instructors also use Bhangra music.

The objective of Zumba is to work out, to love working out, to get hooked.

Colombian exercise guru Alberto Perez instructs his zumba fitness class at Body and Soul fitness club in Coral Gables, Florida. Interestingly, Perez's new zumba program "Pumps up the Volume" has sold over two million videos worldwide.

Guess, its true more so for the showbiz!

In Bollywood context, the quote has been proved by Dabangg; all the media outlets have gone overboard about the business film has done!

May be the makers of Dabangg would like to modify the quote as "Cent percent of success is showing up."

On second thoughts even other than showbiz, success is indeed about showing up - how else does one explain the news doing the rounds that world's biggest bus depot opened in New Delhi on Friday; September 17, 2010!

An article states that men prefer pretty female face over curvy body for marriage. The article finds that when it comes to dating, men love to be seen with a curvy woman. But in a long-term relationship, like a marriage, it's a pretty female face which matters to a bloke.

Researchers have found that men are instinctively attracted to women's body if they are keen on a "no strings" sexual relationship, but they pay more attention to a woman's face in case of settling down and starting a family.

This is because a woman's face provides strong clues to her "reproductive value", say the researchers.

In fact, the study by University of Texas looked at the reactions of 375 men and women who were asked to consider dating a member of the opposite sex whose face or body had been obscured, the Daily Express reported.

Women proved consistent, opting for facial features whether they were interested in having a fling or finding an ideal husband.

But the male volunteers went for sensual bodies in what was termed "the short-term mating condition", and faces in "the long-term mating condition", according to the researchers.

The findings have been published in the Evolution And Human Behaviour journal.

Hi, had a much deserved break for a day; it was such fun to take a break from daily routine and social networking sites as well :)

Though its coming in a bit late; congratulations to Mr. Bachchan on winning yet one more national award for best actor for Paa. As a friend put in, he always sets benchmark and inspires other actors to come up with their best act!

I hate Fridays with no film worth a dekko! For Real and Life Express released today and though I liked the trailer of For Real, don't have enough time to catch up with it.

Back to work, the day started with a meeting with one of my producers who was very appreciative of the script. The big news though, wasn't him like the script; but an invitation to visit a film trade-fair in The Netherlands. It would be really exciting if I could return to Amsterdam after about 4 months. Yes, I liked Amsterdam so much that it is one of my favorite cities now and I guess, I will keep on finding an excuse to be there!

Hi, read an interview of Anusha Rizvi (director of Peepli Live)' she stated that she has no plans to move to Mumbai and she is a film-maker based in Delhi. I applaud it! People who feel they haven't got their due because they didn't move to Mumbai, adhere to a myth.

Location can't confine a talent; agreed there are more opportunities in Mumbai, but that doesn't guarantee work, ask lacs of actors, actresses and models slogging in Mumbai.

The point is irrespective of location; it is your attitude and your contacts that get you work. This reminds me of a friend who met Aamir Khan and sent him a script; he is based in Mumbai; a top-ranking music-video director; his script is also fairly good, yet he couldn't get an Aamir Khan Production or for that matter any other production to filming.

Did moving to Mumbai really help?

The world is becoming a global village, in such a scenario, location hardly matters! Oh yeah, they do matter for indie films though, as they increase the budget owing to the expenses incurred on traveling :)

Hi, caught up with a couple of news-channels yesterday, guess Aaj Tak and India TV and I was foxed by the 'research' they do while reporting on business of cinema.

While Aaj Tak claimed that the opening day collections of Dabangg trounced 3 Idiots collctions' by 2 crores; India TV claimed 1 crore!

Now, who is presenting the correct statistics?

The best part, both the news were being reported at the same time!

DT & HT City reported about the dress dare-brigade (Lady Gaga, Cher, etc.) wore for MTV awards. Well, they dare that's why the world stare at them. What's wrong with that, even their bad dress-sense evoke 'talk'. As they say the first rule to be a 'celebrity' is - get talked about!

A lot of people asked me what I feel about Sonakshi Sinha as an actress; well she hardly acted in Dabangg; she was just used as a glam prop and the fact remains that she wouldn't have got Dabangg, if she wasn't the daughter of Shatrughan Sinha. There are very many beautiful and talented actresses out there waiting for a break, but alas, they haven't got a filmi pedigree.

A friend pointed out that I had predicted a historic opening for Dabangg and it has proved right; well just imagine the kind of business the film would have done if the content was better!

All eyes in the trade are now on Anjaana Anjaani; guess, the initial promotions were good, but the makers haven't introduced any new promos; as such, the audiences are tired of seeing the same promos; same is the case with Jhootha Hi Sahi.

Hi, after a wonderful two day shoot of an international music-video in Agra, I am back.

A lot of people who wanted to read my review on Dabangg were disappointed as I just saw Dabangg today; instead of review, I have given my views on Dabangg.

The shoot was amazing with the famed Taj Mahal forming a formidable backdrop; but more than the shoot and Taj Mahal, I was excited about the property Oberoi, Amarvilas. Amazing, is an understatement, constructed in heritage-style; I particularly liked the step like swimming-pool area.

The food has a distinct aroma and the staff gives you a feel of royalty. Kohinoor Suite, one of the most expensive rooms is just amazing and I was told that Bill Gates stayed over there. The room gives a full view of the Taj Mahal from top to bottom and I could just imagine the high it would be, seeing Taj Mahal on a full-moon night from the plush balcony of the suite, sipping on a drink!

Naturally then my models, Diya and Tania were awed not only by the city of Taj Mahal, Agra; but also Kohinoor Suite.

One thing that pained me though, is the way the guides and even the security at Taj try to act fresh with foreign women. Tania told me that security asked her weird questions like, does she have an identity card, where is she staying, etc. If at all these questions are to be asked, shouldn't they be asked at the onset?

The other thing were the guides, the jams and the filth that surround Taj Mahal; believe me, the approach to Taj Mahal, would swear anyone off it. Having traveled worldwide and seen the attitude with which the visitors are welcomed world-over; unfortunately Taj Mahal cuts a sorry figure.

Hi, a lot of people emailed me about my review of Dabangg; well I couldn't see the film on Friday as I was in Agra; guess it is late to review the film now.

I caught up with the film today, and I got to know what a terrific promo, a terrific song and a terrific positive buzz can do to the fortunes of a movie.

The film doesn't even have a coherent narrative; it just has a few scenes stitched together, more as if were a Salman Khan showreel.

I was grossly disappointed by the film; while first half was still fine; the second half was a yawn yarn; but the fact that Dabangg has made money proves that there is something grossly wrong with Hindi Film Industry today.

A few so-called trade-experts discussed excitedly the biggest opening weekend of Dabangg; but what they overlook is the increase in the number of screens and increase in the number of shows. Is the ratio as big?

For the last 3 years or so, every 'hyped' film has a staggering 1st day collections or 1st weekend collections; does that mean the film is good?

As far as Dabangg goes, after the initial euphoria dies down, the film will slide, but then there is no release next week and the safe two weeks will ensure a hit tag if not a super-hit tag. Well if My Name Is Khan can be 'termed' a hit; even Dabangg can!

Today, I will share a secret; ever-since the 1st edition came out in 2003; there has been a desire. Desire to take out my own calender.

I am sure I will come out with the 1st edition of my company's calender before I hit 45! Mr. Mallya took out his when he was 48!!!

I think the calender adds to the style-quotient; I mean the beaches and the bikini makes it quite, if I may use the term, 'desirable'. I call it desirable because every year I get calls from my friends, asking me if I am left with some extra copies of the calender!

I hope 2011 calender will be better than the previous editions :)

Hi, Ramu is one film-maker who doesn't mince words in what he means. The industry is abuzz with what Ramu has to say about Karan Johar's latest We Are Family. Reportedly, Ramu said something to the effect, the good thing about official remakes is that we can officially prove to the world how bad as film-makers we are.

The acrimony between Ramu and Karan is well known with Ramu famously calling Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, the horror film of the year.

This acerbic comment on We Are Family is only going to aggravate the matter, I guess.

Those of you who evinced interest in my forthcoming film, stay tuned, you will be put on regular update of my new film, once the final cut is in hand by December 15, 2010.

An article in HT City that caught my eye was how 'nude make-up' is quite a fad in Hollywood; whereas Bollywood actresses shy away from the look. I would say insecurity is the reason, "oh what if our fans caught us looking our non-glamouros self" is the thought.

I still remember a die-hard fan of Bipasha Basu who was shocked to see Bipasha Basu, sans make-up playing with pups.

Well, I have always maintained that top actors and actresses are ordinary, what sets them apart is the way they connect with the masses and the connect with the masses comes only with humility and I guess, as Akshay Kumar once said - by being or atleast striving to be a great human-being. Arrogance and attitude are the death-knells for any public figure. A friend argued what about Shahrukh Khan; my simple answer is "he would have been bigger, if he was humble."

Hi, finally its Dabangg all over. Will Dabangg replicate the success of Wanted.

I went to meet distributors in Chandni Chowk yesterday and they were saying single screens are all very excited.

The news that shocked me was Mallika was doing better business than Emotional Atyachaar in Delhi-UP. Not that Emotional Atyachaar is a great movie, but it has relatively familiar faces, as the distributor pointed out Mallika has sex-horror quotient in it and it has a dedicated viewership.

Another distributor pointed out that in Emotional Atyachaar, there were no emotions, so where does the question of atyachaar arise?

The rumor that has baffled the trade is that in Dabangg Salman Khan dies in interval and then Arbaaz Khan becomes the protagonist. If that's the case industry-experts opine that the film might not just click.

Well, we just have two days to go.

Hi, a friend emailed me pictures from the recently concluded auditions for Kingfisher Swimsuit Calender 2011 (with the auditions for various calender hunts on, I am sure there will be more pictures soon).

The friend is in charge at an ad-agency in Delhi and he wants to shortlist two girls for a swimsuit calender that the agency is coming up with.

Of the 20 odd girls, one girl called Talia caught my eye. She has an amazing figure and her body language is simply wow. I don't know whether she has been modeling or what, but she comes across as a thorough professional. Honestly speaking, she has the kind of profile, I am looking for the lead actress for my new film.

If my casting instincts are right, I am sure Talia will feature in KF calender 2011.

Hi, the buzz in the trade is the tepid reviews Freida Pinto's performance has generated in Miral.

At the Venice Film Festival, the critics have heavily come down on her act calling her expressionless.

Well, I did tell a couple of people that Freida is no actress after seeing Slumdog, but then the world was gripped in Slumdog fever. Anyways, here's what a couple of critics have to say about Freida's performance in Miral.

The Film Experience:
...nobody seemed to have a problem with Freida Pinto's inexpressiveness as an actress in Slumdog Millionaire — don't try to tell me that's a new development.We just barely dodged that supporting actress nomination I think.

Hiam Abbas was in Venice for the premiere of Julian Schnabel's Miral but curiously Freida Pinto, “Miral” herself, was not. Maybe she saw some unflattering reviews coming.

Hi, the week started with a bang! Met 3 actresses today, at Le Meridien Delhi and I must say they all are very talented. I particularly liked Diya; she has participated in two of the most famous beauty pageants and I am surprised that what is a talented girl like her doing in Delhi. I mean I gave her the parts to read and she brought in the finer nuances in a cold script-reading without any directions whatsoever! Amazing.

All the 3 were unanimous that the ideas were very good, I hope it was their genuine feedback and not just because they want to get cast.

The seats in Le Meridien's coffee shop are overtly uncomfortable; though the myriad designs are attractive. After trying various seats, I finally settled on a couch, I avoided it deliberately, as I didn't want girls to get any ideas. Though Diya did open the conversation with "Ah, the couch and you are casting!" Guess I like Diya's spunk.

After a long time I drove as my driver was ill today.
Man, the traffic in Delhi has grown manifolds; but one thing that made me proud is that my zip-zap-zoom driving is intact.

What baffled me though, was the CWG lane; why make Delhi-ites suffer for a non-happening CWG.

The kind of money they have blown on CWG could have laid multiple new townships with all modern amenities; but for the politicians.

A very interesting article on the internet making the rounds is 'Happily Unmarried' and talks about couples who are unmarried, yet 'happy'. Is it to reaffirm the adage that either you can be happy or married?

Hi, a recent report stated That Sharukh can't find directors for a modest budget feature film.

Well no big director will take a chance with a modest budget feature with Shahrukh; that leaves him with a choice of taking a new director, but is Shahrukh keen to work with them?

There are not 1 or 100 or 1000; there are probably lacs of aspiring directors waiting for their films to take off; I don't buy his statement that there are no directors to make a modest budget film with 'me'.

All eyes are now on Dabangg; will it pip Rajneeti to emerge as the biggest hit of 2010; well time only will tell. Of the other films that have the potential of a solid start are Golmaal 3, Action Replay and Tees Maar Khan; though with the kind of films Akshay Kumar is doing (faulty scripts) - I am as bit skeptical about AR and TMK.

The news that Dimple Kapadia and Vinod Khanna are there in Dabangg as well came as a surprise as they used to be my favorites during their hey-days.

Let's hope this Friday sees crowds thronging back to theaters.

Hi, anyone who said Sundays are lazy; gotta be with me today.

The day started off with an audition followed by a meeting with an investor at his farmhouse in Chattarpur, Delhi. Driving through the waterlogged roads, scraping through the jams is definitely not the best idea for a Sunday.

Thankfully all the meetings went off quite well; had lunch at Surya in New Friends Colony and I must say New Friends Colony, hasn't yet lost its charm; though I couldn't move much around the area as it was raining.

Since a dear friend has a birthday on Monday, I went to Archies to pick up a gift and I was appalled not to find anything worth gifting at Archies.

Guess, gifts are something that are toughest to pick.

A friend who worked on Emotional Atyachaar asked me, if I have seen the film; not yet, but I might catch up with it in a day or two.

Hi, thanks to everyone who sent in responses to my review of We Are Family; a few retorted I have been rather blunt in reviewing it. Well, I guess a film is reviewed so that a filmmaker makes a better film next time. Reviews are such; though yellow journalism propagated 'paid reviews' and 'malice reviews' and that's why 90 percent of movie-reviews are utter crap.

The sad part is today even trade-journals are misrepresenting the fate of the Bollywood films at box-office depending on their allegiance to certain camps. It is so true for big banners listed on stock-exchange because they need to paint a rosy picture for the share-holders.

The week was hectic, as I held auditions to cast my new film; unfortunately I am not very impressed by the actors; though charming, beautiful and attractive, they can't act.

Reminds me of the dilemma I faced at Cannes as I shot SLV - I was supposed to wrap-up the shoot in 6-7 days and I cast the lead actress on a social networking site and the video of the audition she sent was perfect. Don't even try to gauge my reaction when during rehearsals I found she can't even remember one dialogue completely.

That day I realized, apart from, looks, height or personality; a sharp memory, concentration and focus are also of prime importance to look at, while casting.

I hope that I will be able to find the right actors within a week or so; well, let's hope so!

Hi, its been 4 months now, since 69 OPPOSITES ATTRACT created a buzz at Cannes Film Festival. I met very many wonderful people out there and one such person is Mr. Krishna Shah. He was probably the first person to bridge the gap between Hollywood and Bollywood.

He got Sir Rex Harrison to play villain against Dharmerndra in Shalimar in late 70's.

It was a pleasant surprise then, when I got an invitation to attend a scriptwriting workshop conducted by him on Saturday, 4th September. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend as I am in Delhi, shooting; but I wish him and the participants all the luck.

I hope participants find the workshop useful.

I also want to share a videolog that Mr. Shah gave during the Cannes Film Festival.

All the best to everyone who is attending and a message for all my friends on social networking sites, I hope the workshop is beneficial in realizing your dreams :)

Hi, heroines it seems are giving a hard-time to their producers and directors.

Mallika Sherawat steered clear of Double Dhamaal mahurat; the reported reason is she is not really comfortable with Indian media. Wow!

The goss is that Kareena Kapoor isn't fine with the script of Madhur Bhandarkar's heroine and after the widely publicized Kangna Ranaut's casting in screen-adaptation of Midnight's Children; apparently Kangna has pulled out of the film citing date problems.

A famous director-duo's casting woes have already been making headlines every alternate day in media.

Why is there such a paucity of heroines makes me wonder?

I met a film-critic yesterday over dinner; a veteran of about a few decades, he said why don't we have actresses like Nargis, Nutan, Waheeda Rehmna; my question was do we have film-makers of the calibre of Raj Kapoor or Gurudutt.

No!

Yes Indian cinema has got a lot technical savvy and the films bear a polished look. but what about the soul that films had?

This is precisely the reason, why films are having a dismal outing; reportedly We Are Family opened to shckingly low collections in the range of about 25%; shocking indeed, if true!
